たいぎ【大義】

a just [great, noble] cause; a strong moral obligation; justice; righteousness; 〔正当化〕 (a) justification; (a) vindication. [⇒たいぎめいぶん]

●アラブ[イスラム]の大義 the Arab [Islamic] cause

・平和の大義 the cause of peace

・忠君愛国の大義 the cause of loyalty and patriotism

・悠久の大義に生きる 〔軍国主義時代に〕 die in the name of eternal [everlasting] loyalty to the nation.
